Monica Emelko recognized with the Faculty of Engineering Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision
Nominated by current CEE graduate student, Soosan Bahramian, Monica Emelko was selected to receive one of the Faculty of Engineering’s Awards of Excellence in Graduate Supervision for 2021 and is being considered for the University-wide Award to be announced next month.
Graduate student supervision requires complex interaction with graduate students. This award asked students to nominate supervisors who excelled in the role of a supervisor as a mentor, advisor, role model, humanist and strategist, someone who exemplifies a high level of energy and ingenuity. Monica Emelko’s nomination package included letters from current and past graduate students, and a number of faculty colleagues, that had shared recounts of these qualities in Emelko. This award is testament to her success in the role as a graduate student supervisor. The award committee recognized that these roles and characteristics among supervising faculty are an integral part of the success of Engineering Graduate Studies programs at the University of Waterloo.
Monica Emelko will learn if she is a recipient of the University Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision in March 2022.
